Lago Lachuá

Lachuá Lake (Carretera de la Franja Transversal del Norte, Chisec 16026) –
located nearly 7 hours (364 km) north of the capital, this is a karstic lake found in the
middle of a national park covered with tropical rain forest, northwest of Cobán, near the
border between the departments of Alta Verapaz and El Quiché. Karst terrain is usually
characterized by barren, rocky ground, caves, sinkholes, underground rivers and the
absence of surface streams & lakes. This is another worthy destination for eco-tourists
in search of diverse eco-destinations apart from volcanos. This place is also ideal for
campers, since there are camp sites by the lake.
